Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to the enrollment fair and/or appointment with my case worker?
To help expedite your Medicare enrollment, please bring:
  • A list of drugs you take. Be sure to include the strength and the number of times you take each drug each day or per week, such as "Lipitor 20 mg, once a day". (Some pharmacies will print out a list for you).
  • Your Medicare card. If you don't have the actual card, apply at the local Social Security office or call them at 1-800-772-1213 to get a new Medicare card.

What if I am already enrolled but don't yet have a drug plan membership card?
If you enrolled late in the month and you need to fill a prescription before you receive your drug plan membership card, you should let your pharmacist know the name of the Medicare drug plan you joined and they may be able to substitute other information for the card. Be aware that your pharmacists will have to research and confirm your membership information, so it may take just a bit longer than normal to fill the prescription.

Here's what can be used as a temporary substitute for the drug plan membership card:
  • An acknowledgment letter from your drug plan, or
  • A confirmation letter, or
  • An enrollment confirmation number received from the plan (if you completed online enrollment, the number appears on your confirmation of enrollment statement).
