Young Parents Succeed

This newest program of Catholic Charities focuses on helping young single parents achieve self sufficiency and become more resourceful for their child.  The program utilizes a combination of workshops, mentoring, and one-on-one guidance from an education specialist to help parents achieve goals that have been incorporated into a long-term work plan for achieving self sufficiency.  Parents will also have access to key family strengthening services such as food pantry, emergency financial assistance, and family counseling if needed.

 

Eligibility

Single Parents ages 16-25
Residents of Travis County

Fee

This program is completely FREE. 
Transportation is FREE.
Childcare is provided FREE.

Workshops

Six free Young Parents Succeed classes featuring guest speakers, that will focus on life-skills topics:

Goals for Life…
How to understand, identify, and achieve life goals.
Health…
Good nutrition for both the parent and children.
Finances…
Dealing with money, jobs, paying bills, and getting out of debt.
Social Needs
Dealing with the social needs of young parents.
Parenting (2 Sessions)…
Ever feel like you are loosing control with your child? Come hear about skills to be the loving parent you always wanted to be.

Access to a Catholic Charities Education Specialist

Parents will work with a Catholic Charities education specialist in one-on-one sessions to identify key personal and professional goals that can be incorporated into a long-term work plan for achieving self sufficiency.  Technical assistance and guidance will be provided to the young parent. 

Assigned Volunteer Mentor

Volunteer mentors will be assigned to each parent and work one-on-one to provide encouragement, support and guidance in applying lessons learned in the Young Parents Succeed workshop series and applying towards real world situations.  Young parents will meet with their assigned mentors on a weekly basis.  

Accessing Additional Family Strengthening Services

Teen and young parents enrolled in this program will also be able to access additional family strengthening services such as food pantry, access to pro bono legal services, case management, individual counseling and financial assistance for rent and utilities, if needed.

Young Parents Succeed Mentors

Would you like to make a lasting impact in the life of a young parent? Get involved with Catholic Charities’ new “Young Parents Succeed” mentoring program that focuses on improving parenting and life skills in young single parents.

Become a Mentor

Use your work and life experience to help a Young Parent “walk the path” and become a better, more resourceful parent to their children while achieve self-sufficiency goals.

Mentors will provide encouragement, guidance, and support for their assigned Young Parents and to help them achieve personal and professional goals that will improve the Young Parent’s self sufficiency. Mentors will also help their Young Parent apply knowledge learned through parenting classes towards real world situations.

Training

All interested mentors must complete the Protecting God’s Children class and Mentoring Training Class. Additional training and support will be provided by a Catholic Charities education specialist. All classes will be held at 1817 East 6th. Catholic Charities main office.
