Food Pantry
Emergency food assistance is available, free of charge, to anyone in need. Ongoing assistance is available to residents of 78702 and 78741 zip codes, hurricane survivors, and internal clients of Catholic Charities.
Client choice model with 7-14 day supply of nutritious groceries, including meat, dairy, and fresh produce. Verified clients may access services once every 14 days for up to 12 visits; then, once every 28 days. Seniors and disabled clients are given the option of receiving services on a less crowded day (our “Senior Day”), provided there is space available.
The pantry incorporates a holistic model by offering classes in health & nutrition, prevention of disease, exercise, cooking, and budgeting. Information and Referral services are offered, with great emphasis placed on internal referrals for food stamp benefits. Regular cooking demonstrations are held at the pantry each month. Our organic garden is an integral component of the program, and harvested produce is given to clients.
The food pantry program also raises public awareness on the issues of hunger and health & nutrition, and provides opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors through donations of food, volunteer hours, monetary donations, and partnerships.
