Forecasted Recession Prompts New Workshops Focused on Employment Preparedness

Catholic Charities offers the New Horizons Workshop Series that helps families freshen up their resumes and fine tune their job searching and interviewing skills.

AUSTIN

Searching for a job has changed dramatically over the last decade, and staying on top of new hiring trends will be the key to getting ahead. Catholic Charities of Central Texas is holding a special series of workshops for those currently looking for a job, planning a job change or thinking of changing careers.

“We are working to provide help and create hope for the many vulnerable families who are nervous about employment instability,” said Kim Armstrong, Job Coach for Catholic Charities of Central Texas.

Historically, recessions have hurt job-seekers the hardest, especially those who work in places dependent on discretionary spending, such as restaurants, retail, manufacturing plants and other.

“These workshops were initially offered only to Hurricane Katrina evacuees living in our community,” said Cynthia Colbert, Executive Director of Catholic Charities. “But with more and more local residents inquiring about these services, we decided to make the workshop available to everyone. We are dedicated to reducing poverty by strengthening families through services that empower and promote self-sufficiency.”

New Horizons Workshop Series is available to the general public and the program is free. Pre-registration is required.

To enroll, contact (512) 651-6147.
